Sociology
Sociology is the study of societies, how they are organized, and how they change. Sociologists attempt to discover uniformities and build theories about societies, communities, institutions, bureaucracies, associations, groups, families, interpersonal relations, social movements, social classes, and social conflict. Modern sociology developed in the study of the industrial societies of Europe and North America -communities that are characterized by complex economic differentiation and the competition of interests among a multiplicity of formal and informal groups and associations. Among the topics typically studied by sociologists are criminology, social dynamics, systems of social class and stratification, industrialization, urbanization, labor relations, rural societies, family organization, education, the computer simulation of social situations, community structure, and social movements and ideologies.
