People - Advising Staff

Dawn Hammond  
Academic Specialist

Ms. Hammond received a B.A. in history from Indiana University-Bloomington and a M.A. in student affairs from Michigan State University. Prior to joining the advising staff in 2007, she had over 15 years experience within universities in areas such as academic advising and service-learning/civic engagement. At MSU, she has worked in the Eli Broad College of Business’s advising office and in the College of Social Science’s Student Affairs office. Within her tenure at MSU, she has earned an Outstanding Staff Award from the Office of Supportive Services; Certificate ofAppreciation from the All University Excellence in Diversity Award; Richard B. Lewis Quality Award for designing a Web-based appointment system now used throughout the University; and a National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) award for Outstanding Advising Staff in the College of Business.

Other interests include working with at-risk students, service learning/civic engagement, teaching and diversity. She received a Creating a More Diverse Learning Environment Grant to create a Multicultural Collaborative Learning Community, which included special programs. She has taught classes in civics, women’s studies, and college reading. She has gone on Alternative Spring Breaks with students to the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota.

Dawn enjoys attending lectures and events around the topic of diversity; photography; reading almost anything and researching her family tree.
