College of Social Science Requirements

To ensure an appropriately broad and well-balanced education, all undergraduates enrolled as majors in the College of Social Science must satisfy the following subject matter and credit distribution requirements, in addition to the requirements of the university and of their individual majors. Courses approved for Integrative Studies may not be counted toward any of these college requirements. Students may not apply independent study, internship, field experience, or practicum courses toward the college's requirements. Also, IDS students may not use any additional course work taken in their cognate disciplines to fulfill college requirements. A complete description of these requirements may be found in the university's Academic Programs publication.

Students are urged to meet with their advisors regularly and frequently to make sure that their programs of study will fulfill graduation requirements. Each student is individually responsible for being aware of and for meeting graduation requirements.

The college requirements total at least 30 credits and are distributed over three areas of knowledge. Students must take course work in the natural sciences, in arts and letters, and in the social sciences. The distribution of these courses and credits vary between the bachelor of arts and the bachelor of science degrees. Students may refer to the outlines of degree requirements in the IDS Handbook (see pages 58 and 59) to see the college requirements for each degree.
