Study Abroad

The realities of being part of a global society have placed a high premium on international awareness--an awareness that enables one better to understand other peoples and societies and to cooperate in the resolution of mutual economic, political, and social issues. Michigan State University recognizes the importance of providing students with opportunities to enhance their knowledge, experience, and understanding of the world through a wide array of overseas study programs. MSU currently offers the largest number of study-abroad programs of any American university. Students have opportunities to choose from nearly 200 academic programs offered in Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand , Latin America, and the Caribbean . Students not only add an international dimension to their education that is personally and academically rewarding, but they also

acquire experiences in world travel, gain awareness of other cultures, enhance their marketability, and - through some programs - significantly improve their foreign language skills.

Learning experiences through study abroad vary from classroom instruction and field trips to supervised individual study. Study Abroad programs are designed to take full advantage of the overseas environment and to provide students with an enriching academic experience.

The IDS advising staff invites students to explore the exciting and enriching learning opportunities available through participation in a study abroad program. Social Science credits can be earned through programs offered by various academic units in the College of Social Science .
